  • Wade Phillips tapped as Broncos new DC

    29 Jan 2015 | 10:08 pm
Once again joining forces with newly hired head coach Gary Kubiack, Wade Phillips has been tapped to oversee the Broncos defense. With 38 years of NFL coaching experience - the bulk of them as a defensive coordinator - Phillips will probably roll out a 3-4 defense in Denver. The 67-year-old coach has a history with Denver and GM John Elway, having served as the team's DC from 1989-1992 and head coach from 1992-1993. FANTASY ANALYSIS: He may not be an offensive genius, but Phillips can juice up a defense. His aggressive style should work well in Denver, potentially boosting the IDP values of…
  • Eagles RB LeSean McCoy not open to taking pay cut

    29 Jan 2015 | 9:40 pm
While being interviewed at Super Bowl Radio Row on Thursday, Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he didn't "want to take less money" in order to keep the current team together. At $11,950,000 in 2015, McCoy's cap number will be the second highest in the league. Philadelphia is expected to retain the stud RB, but the organization would save $7,550,000 if he was released. Understanding that a pay cut would free up enough cash to bring back some of his other teammates, McCoy remains adamant about being paid what he was initially promised. FANTASY ANALYSIS: If McCoy isn't open to at least restructuring…

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III dislocated his left ankle in Week 2 this season. He missed the next six games to get healthy, but that never happened. Even after Griffin returned in Week 9, he felt the effects of the injury. RGIII admitted as much in a Wednesday radio interview. "Last year, I wasn't healthy, and it sucked," Griffin said. "There's no other way to say it other than that." Griffin said his ankle was so bad that he could have taken the rest of the season off to get truly healed up, but he indicated that he pushed himself to get on the field as the losses mounted for…
  • Report: Buccaneers have their 'sights set' on QB Marcus Mariota

    29 Jan 2015 | 6:16 pm
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "there's a real sense that Tampa Bay has its sights set on Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota." Of course, the Bucs have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. They are fully expected to take a quarterback at the top, either Mariota or Florida State's Jameis Winston. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Who likes to dance? That's what Mariota's draft stock will be doing until April 30. He was viewed as the No. 1 pick for the majority of the college season. Then the Ducks lost the national championship game to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Mariota didn't play well, and his draft…

  • Super Bowl rooting interest for fans of the other 30 teams

    30 Jan 2015 | 6:17 am
Sorry for the numerous poll choices, but I wanted to see what the SP thought about rooting interest in the game.  Is it automatically assumed that Steelers, Jets, Dolphins fans would automatically root for the Seahawks? Or that 49ers, Packers or Cowboys fans would automatically root for the Patriots? This could also be a measure of how polarizing each team and their fanbase is with the rest of the league.   I would say automatically that: Patriots rivals: rest of AFC east, Steelers, Colts and Broncos Seahawks rivals: rest of NFC west, Packers, Cowboys   If you feel differently,…

The stars on the Tennessee Titans roster are preaching adjustment and improvement in their 2015 fantasy football outlook. If anything less transpires, Ken Whisenhunt’s second season as head coach might be his last. The Titans finished 2014 30th in NFL scoring—according to Pro-Football-Reference.com—29th in standard fantasy scoring. It’s an unacceptable result for an offensive-minded coach like Whisenhunt who was hired to rectify the Mike Munchak regime’s offensive failures. Munchak’s offense never finished below 23rd in NFL scoring (2012)—according to…

The 2015 fantasy football outlook for the stars in the Tampa Bay offense has to be brighter, because the dimmer doesn’t go much lower. The Buccaneers are set to add to a promising lineup as the clock ticks down on their No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. The pre-combine consensus has either Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston hoisting a pewter-and-red jersey come April 30. Both quarterbacks should count themselves fortunate to inherit an arsenal packed with Charles Sims, Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, among others. Tampa Bay’s fall to the worst record in 2014 was riddled with misfortune…

So several of my college theater friends (and other friends) have been playing fantasy football together for the last few years. If you play fantasy football, you know that often a team could be projected at 135 points, and end up with like, 80, based on fluke underdog wins, injuries, etc. And every year, we have a gmail chain going to make fun of members of our league (sometimes me) who have scored particularly low. This year, we are upping the ante. Our first week, my friend Clare was the biggest loser with only 83 points. Meanwhile, the biggest winner was Molly with 155. Through a number…

Personally, I do not think that he thinks it is time to expect him to walk away. Peyton has a lot of Pride and his performance versus Indy is not the way he will want to end his career. Top Pick 1. New England Patriots (-6.5) vs. Ind – I get it, Andrew Luck is a beast, the Colts are starting to figure things out and are coming off a great road win in Denver. It still won’t matter. New England should win this by double digits. The Colts don’t stop the run very well so you can expect a heavy dosage of RB LeGarrette Blount and even Jonas Gray, who ran for 199 and 4 TDs against Indy the last time they played. Defensively, New England doesn’t have to worry about a running game so you can expect a scheme heavily intent on defensing the pass. The Colts…

Top pick 1. Denver Broncos (-7) vs. Ind – The Colts are playing on house money in the 2nd round. They can’t run the ball nor defense the run very well, and beat an undermanned Bengals team to get here. Their season will end this weekend. Denver is well rested, gets some key members back on D (LB Brandon Marshall), and will destroy Indy’s defense with its run / pass attack. Look for the Broncos to easily cover the point spread. Next 2. Seattle Seahawks (-10.5) vs. Car – These teams have met each of the last two seasons and each contest has been close. Each contest has…

Top pick 1. Arizona Cardinals (+6.5) vs. Car – The Panthers should win and enter the game in pretty good shape health-wise. The Cardinals are forced to play QB Ryan Lindley which is a depressing thought. However, Arizona’s D will be ready to play and will force Cam Newton into mistakes. Expect a close game which Arizona may pull out in the end. Either way, Carolina won’t be covering the point spread. Next 2. Detroit Lions (+7) vs. Dal – The Cowboys come in strong, finishing 8-0 on the road. They haven’t fared as well at home. The Lions D will challenge Romo and…

Minnesota has grown under 1st year HC Mike Zimmer and will finish out the season with a bang at home. Look for the Vikings to win by 10 and cover the point spread. Next 2. Green Bay Packers (-7.5) vs. Det – Some may call last week a trap game for the Lions, but not us. That’s typical Matt Stafford being unable to capitalize on things given to him. The Packers will be ready in a game with a ton of meaning…

QB Jimmy Claussen will start in Jay Cutler’s place and the Lions D will be ALL over him. Detroit will blowout the Bears and easily cover the point spread. Next Carolina Panthers (-3) vs. Cle – Sorry Johnny, it’s a steep learning curve in the NFL. The rookie QB will struggle again mightily against a subpar D. Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5) vs. Was – RGIII is a welcome sight for an Eagles team reeling after two losses. The Eagles will win by double digits.

Each year, it’s important to spend some time reflecting on these performances and consider doing some box score scouting to make sure nothing is lost. Each week I will be walking through the Twitterverse extracting some of the best commentary from trusted fantasy football minds. Twitter can be overwhelming with the amount of information that streams live, but it also proves to be one of the fastest and easiest ways to communicate. In 140 characters or less you can learn something about a player you may have never thought of from trends, stats or analysis. Johnny Manziel, QB CLE An interesting tweet from Heath Cummings came across my timeline this week, What kind of odds would you give Brock Osweiler of outscoring Johnny Manziel over the…

    My name
    28 Dec 2014 | 8:33 am
If you play in one of those weird fantasy leagues that schedule their championship game on Week 17, you probably feel like a circus clown juggling chainsaws on a high wire above a pride of hungry lions.  Leagues with Week 17 championships are normally ran by fantasy novices or nutcase Commissioners, as they introduce the possibility of stud players not playing due to their teams locking-up playoff spots earlier in the season. However, these poorly-configured leagues do unfortunately exist and their owners need fantasy advice just like everyone else.  And in an ironic twist, you must…

If you’re reading this article, congratulations!  It’s Week 16 and you’re likely still in the running for some sort of fantasy recognition.  Maybe you’re still in the championship hunt, or maybe you’re playing for a nice fantasy football prize or reward should you pull out a win. You could literally be one yard away from the prize that has eluded you for years. No matter what, pride is a big part of what you have going on this week in fantasy and that’s plenty of reason to play close attention to your roster.  Even if you’re out of the…

Daily Fantasy Sports, otherwise known as DFS, is growing like an out-of-control forest fire in California during the hot, dry months of summer. The game allows for you to draft a brand new team every single day that you feel like playing rather than being weighed down by the annual fantasy leagues that we are used to playing. It also alleviates the stress of being the owner of a star player that is hurt or the worry factor of having to keep up with your team on a daily basis so you don’t fall out of your leagues playoff contention. • Nationals sign Casey Janssen to 1-yr deal

    29 Jan 2015 | 4:55 am
Photo by Keith Allison The Washington Nationals have signed relief pitcher Casey Janssen. He will get $5 million guaranteed in the 1-yr deal with an option buyout. He will add depth to the bullpen and offer insurance for current closer Drew Storen. After trading Tyler Clippard and almost certainly walking away from Rafael Soriano now, Janssen’s deal looks like an efficient, low-risk acquisition. He had a down year in 2014 which saw his ERA jump to 3.94 and his K/9 decrease to 5.5. Janssen did have back issues last season which caused him to miss 7 weeks. This might be one explanation…

With the 11 games we have this Wednesday (1/28/15), there are a lot of players out there to choose from. Here are the ones you NEED to start and the ones that offer good upside at a cheap price. PG: Must Start: John Wall (FanDuel $9.1k / DraftKings $9.2k) Wall has been playing some great basketball as of late. He almost had a triple-double in his last game, he put up 21 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists. Tonight he takes on the Phoenix Suns, and I expect another big game from him in what will be a high scoring game. Bargain: Brian Roberts (FanDuel $4.1k / DraftKings $4.2k) With Kemba Walker…

  • Fantasy Football Running Back Review for 2014

    James Blews
    21 Jan 2015 | 5:38 am
As every fantasy football owner knows, things change over the course of a season. With suspensions, injuries and just plain talent emerging, numbers can shift. Today, we do a fantasy football running back review for 2014. I’m also going to break down the “why” so that we can repeat some of the successes over this season. How did your season change this season? I think we could all agree, that if you were in the first five selections of your fantasy football league this season, you might feel a bit denied from the fantasy football gods. In fact, from every fantasy forecast I…

    4 Jan 2015 | 6:33 am
As the first games of the 2014-2015 NFL playoffs start, I think it’s a great time to look back on the fantasy football numbers of this past year. While there are always the proverbial ebbs and flows to a fantasy season, not every fantasy football owner can make sense of what happened. In this first article, we are going to look at some of the theories that were laid out for new and advanced fantasy owners this year. We are going to break down where they excelled and where they fell flat on their faces. Did you switch to one of these new strategies? Did you switch your own and create…
  • Week Two 2014 Fantasy Football Review: Sunday’s Best

    James Blews
    15 Sep 2014 | 6:14 am
Week Two in the 2014 NFL Season held a few surprises for fantasy football owners; as always, right? Today we look at Sunday’s best and worst. Good and Bad Quarterbacks This week as opposed to last week, we saw more scoring from quarterbacks that were in the pre-season Top 5 fantasy rankings. This week, the top fantasy quarterbacks were… Aaron Rodgers – 33 points Jay Cutler – 33 points Philip Rivers – 30 points Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler did not have “complete control” kind of games this week, but they did find ways to score. Rodgers relied on Jordy…
  • Week 2: Kinda right in waiver wire grabs

    James Blews
    10 Sep 2014 | 6:29 am
The fantasy football waiver wire holds a lot of talent. How many points did you get last week? If you played our Week One team, you got 119 points! Find out how… Week One in the fantasy football waiver wire held a ton of talent and possibility that was left untouched. In fact, here’s a stat…Allen Hurns was on less teams than Tim Tebow. Crazy right? We did awesome last week! Jake Locker played as top 5 quarterback, plus, we had two top 5 fantasy football wide receivers in Allen Hurns and Steve Smith. Also, the big pickup was the Houston Texans Team Defense….wracking up…
  • Week 1: Fantasy Football Value All Day Long

    James Blews
    5 Sep 2014 | 8:58 am
Fantasy football is not simply about playing the drafting game better than other owners. For me, the waiver wire is where your real value is. Week One in the fantasy football waiver wire is kind of up in the air each season. However, if you do need some help, there are still viable fantasy options if you need a fill-in, or more depth on your football squad. Jake Locker (QB – Tennessee Titans) Jake Locker is going to be my quarterback for this week. Hands down, Ken Whisenhunt being the new coach helps his situation (he’s an offensively minded NFL coach). However, versus the Chiefs…

Everyone gets old eventually. Father time has never been defeated and all of that trash. Skills erode, eras end and times change. They just do. Too often do we see NFL fans complaining about a fading star. They’ve lost something on their fastball, they can’t move around quite as well, etc. The list goes on. They should probably just retire already. Let the next hot young prospect take over. But do we have to rush it? The talk of Peyton Manning potentially leaving the game should be a cause for concern. Once Manning goes, there is sure to be a domino effect. Eventually guys like…

  • Torrey Smith in Doubt For Week 15

    Kevin Roberts
    10 Dec 2014 | 5:05 am
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith is in doubt for week 15, as he continues to nurse a sprained knee. Early reports suggest Smith is a “long shot” to suit up against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and fantasy football league managers can start considering alternative options early in the week. This news obviously boosts teammate Steve Smith considerably. Smith ended a scoring drought last week by finding the end-zone, but had been plagued for weeks by drops, while Torrey Smith had been catching much of quarterback Joe Flacco’s attention. With Torrey Smith likely out,…

By now you’ve heard that Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car accident. The good news is that he wasn’t seriously injured and was actually caught smiling immediately after the accident. Unfortunately, being “fine” after a car accident and good enough to play professional football are two very different things. Newton reportedly still suffered two minor cracks in his back, similar to what Tony Romo sustained in week eight. Romo went on to miss one game and used a bye week to get back to full strength. Newton won’t have the luxury of…
  • Packers Not Worried About Eddie Lacy’s Hip

    10 Dec 2014 | 4:48 am
Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy mashed the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football in week 14. However, he was absent from the team’s closing drive due to a hip injury, which naturally stirred up questions about his week 15 availability. The injury has been diagnosed as a hip bruise, but head coach Mike McCarthy reportedly does not have a “high concern” in regards to the injury. It looks like Lacy’s removal from Monday night’s game was more about playing it safe than a star player nursing a serious injury. James Starks matched Lacy with over 70 rushing…

SMITTY: Things will be official next month, but the often talked about son of Cris Carter is a fine dynasty grab if for whatever reason he is still available on waivers. He is 6-4, so he has great size, and of course great genes, but character issues had him undrafted in 2013, so he is no lock to make the roster in 2015. Grab him on pure spec, though, no question. SMITTY: According to several reports, Jerry Jones admitted recently that it will be challenging to retain both DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant heading into 2015. Murray, who is no spring chicken given he turns 27 shortly, might not command as much off-season attention as he hopes. That said, it only takes one team to look past his age and injury history, and if you look at what he did last year, he deserves a ton more than the low-ball offers the Cowboys have been slinging in the runner’s direction. Expect Dallas to focus on signing Dez, then expect them to refocus their attention on…

  • FanDuel & DraftKings Divisional Round Top Player Values

    Lockdown Corner
    10 Jan 2015 | 10:34 am
Last week scores were pretty low.  Teams are better and know how to show guys down, like Calvin Johnson last week.  Usually the winning scores in the millionaire pools or most pools for that matter are 270-330 ish give or take.  The winning score in last week’s Saturday Million was 149.66. Because of the limited selection of players to choose from, the playoffs are likely to continue to be lower scoring than the regular season contests. This means you should be okay with using some sub-optimal values in your GPP contests in order to get the right combination of high upside plays in…
  • Win at FanDuel & DraftKings – How I Did Last Week in Daily Fantasy Football

    Lockdown Corner
    9 Jan 2015 | 9:25 pm
Well week one of the playoffs was interesting.  On FanDuel I found myself in a position to either win it all or more likely finish in the top five. Going into the last game between the Cowboys and Lions I was 26 points out of first place.  Most of the people ahead of me had no players left, a few that were 10 points ahead of me, had Jason Witten going  and still had Calvin Johnson left!  I actually had Antonio Brown AND Calvin Johnson in the same lineup. Unfortunately I didn’t get a typical Calvin day or I would have placed in the top five of the pool. On DraftKings however, I was in a…

Based on the feedback I’ve gotten through email, G+ and twitter that many of you have as well, so lets keep it going into the playoffs! The last week of the season is always one of the hardest to figure out.  This is exactly the reason no one likes their season long fantasy…

    Dan Schalk
    30 Jan 2015 | 9:02 am

  • Joey Votto Sleeper Candidate

    Dan Schalk
    29 Jan 2015 | 1:15 pm
Joey Votto- 1st Baseman- Cincinnati Reds 2013 Stats: 162 GP, 101 R, 24 HR, 73 RBI, .305 BA 2014 Stats: 62 GP, 32 R, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .255 BA Coming off of his worst statistical season, and a career low 62 games some might write Joey Votto off of their fantasy baseball draft board.  I will not be one of those people.  I have Votto marked as a potential sleeper pick with loads of value based on where he is being drafted.  The Reds first baseman is returning from a severe quad injury, but as of January 22nd Votto was declared “as close to 100% as he’ll ever be.” Let’s…
  • Draft Profile: Landon Collins

    Dan Schalk
    29 Jan 2015 | 11:11 am
    1. Landon Collins- Safety- Alabama Size: 6’0 222lbs 2013 Stats: 69 tackles 2 INTs 2014 Stats: 87 tackles 3 INTs Strengths: Physical, aggressive safety Great in run defense Good tackler Can match up physically against tight ends Decent ball skills Analysis: Collins is the consensus #1 safety in the draft.  He has a natural ability reading the run, taking great angles of pursuit to the ball carrier.  When Collins attempts to make a tackle, it is usually successful.  He uses great technique and wraps up well.  When the ball is in the air, Collins has good ball skills that allow him to…
  • Draft Profile: Maxx Williams

    Dan Schalk
    29 Jan 2015 | 10:27 am
    2. Maxx Williams- Tight End- Minnestoa Size:6’4 250lbs 2013 Stats: 25 receptions 417 yards 5 TDs 2014 Stats: 36 receptions 569 yards 8 TDs Strengths: Soft Hands Makes incredible catches Good acceleration to get to top speed Great Red Zone target- 82% of catches for 1st down or TD Playmaking ability Decent speed Analysis: The tight end class of 2015 is not highly respected, especially outside of the top two–Clive Walford from Miami (FL) and Maxx Williams out of Minnesota.  Williams is your standard receiving tight end, he has good hands with a great catch radius.  Decent speed…
  • Draft Profile: David Cobb

  • Why No NFL Team Should Draft a QB in Round 1 of the 2015 NFL Draft

    Doug Bowles
    26 Jan 2015 | 5:26 am
“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” ― Jameis Winston Churchill by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles It’s very interesting that neither QB in this year’s Super Bowl was drafted in the 1st or the 2nd round. (Tom Brady 6th round…Russell Wilson 3rd round.) I might be wrong, but if I’m the powers in charge in Jacksonville, it’s more than I can bare to think about having 4 pro-bowlers follow the selection of rookie QB Blake Bortles in round one. Only time will tell whether or not Bortles will turn out to be a…
  • Utter-Fantasy’s Super Bowl Prediction – Who’s Going To Win?

    Doug Bowles
    22 Jan 2015 | 4:40 am
by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator & Doug “Super” Bowles Although last week I correctly predicted the outcome of both games, I can’t pat myself on the back too much, because Green Bay should have won that game. I was reading an article about Warren Moon being at that week 3 playoff game vs Seattle, and he stated that to this day, he still has trouble dealing with the lost Buffalo in 1993. (In January of that year, Moon’s Houston Oilers blew a 35-3 lead and lost a playoff game to Buffalo. It remains the biggest comeback in NFL history. The Packers’ loss on…

When I joined my first fantasy football league, it was back in 1985, and it was back before we had any fancy fantasy football websites or fancy fantasy football apps. Doug Bowles
    13 Jan 2015 | 1:53 pm
Who’s Going To The Superbowl? by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator & Prognosticator Doug Bowles Last week I was quite confident that New England and Seattle would prevail. I was hoping Green Bay would, and thought Indianapolis had a real shot. Writing to my buddy in Atlanta, I told him that the Broncos didn’t look particularly good the last few weeks of the regular season, and if they didn’t play better, Indy would win. Denver didn’t play better, and sadly, Peyton looked tired. The game looked like Indy’s game to win, with every shot down the field…

Hopefully by now everyone is reading our NBA Daily Plays on the same day they are reading the Bargain Plays. What this article is meant to do is give you some cheaper options so that you can throw in some of those expensive guys that might be must plays. Every one of these guys (with a rare exception that will be called out) is $4,500 and under on DraftKings. Remember, these guys may be volatile, because they are this cheap for a reason. Also pay attention to lineup announcements. That will be your best shot at a getting a guy close to minimum that will hit value. SIGNUP TO PLAY ON DRAFTKINGS…

  • Quest to $10K: My Journey to A Huge Daily Fantasy Bankroll

    Brent Hale
    28 Jan 2015 | 12:00 pm
Introduction In this series of posts, I’m going to chronicle my attempt to build a large bankroll playing daily fantasy sports. I’m not an expert or a pro, so my hope is that in my quest to reach $10K I provide some insight into other amateurs like myself. While I’d like to play and update this post on a daily basis, that would be nearly impossible to pull off. So, in order to make sure that this post tracks every step of the way, I will not enter into any games unless I have the time to update this page. This means that if by chance I actually do reach my goal of hitting a…
