  • Falcons WR Julio Jones posts 161 receiving yards, two TDs in win

    FFToolbox Fantasy Football Updates
    18 Sep 2014 | 9:26 pm
With Falcons WR Roddy White sitting out due to a hamstring injury, Julio Jones became Matt Ryan's primary target on Thursday night. In the most dominant performance by any WR this season, Jones was able to post nine receptions for 161 yards and two TDs. FANTASY ANALYSIS: There isn't much else to say. Jones is clearly the WR1 you drafted him to be and is matchup-proof. It is worth noting, however, that any time White misses game action, it clearly has a positive effect on Julio's numbers.

Friends, I've got a first draft of the 2014 Average Position Rankings spreadsheet up here as a google doc. If you're new to this annual spreadsheet or need a refresher, here's the scoop. I take the top 200 or so overall rankings that are freely offered by a handful of sites and I average out their rankings for each player. I also take the standard deviation to see how a player's rankings differ among experts, and add that in as another component to give you a sense of how much consensus there is on a player. I drew from the following sites this year: FFToolbox, CBSSports.com (both Jamey and…

  • Backlash Against NFL

    19 Sep 2014 | 3:16 pm
Every segment of a population will have its idiots, child abusers, drug addicts, cheaters, and spousal abusers. This is a simple fact of statistics. The backlash against the NFL for having a few such knuckleheads seems based a little in an expectation of fantasy.   Given the number of players in professional football, common sense tells us the NFL will never completely eradicate itself of deplorable behavior. I do not understand how this idea of blaming the NFL for these issues ever came about. Why is it Roger Goodell's responsibility to do something about it? We don't assign many other…

  • Fantasy Football Week 3: Analyzing Top Waiver-Wire Targets to Fill Key Voids

    19 Sep 2014 | 12:59 pm
In a perfect world, a fantasy football owner would be able to ride the same lineup for an entire season while only making changes for bye weeks. Of course, longtime players know that's not realistic. Given the high number of variables in play, the waiver wire is essential to success. Sometimes it's even necessary to find a plug-and-play option—a free agent who's picked up and immediately put in the lineup to fill a void created by injury or unexpectedly poor play. It's not ideal, but sometimes the situation warrants it. With that in mind, let's check out one player from each key…
  • Bobby Rainey's Poor Week 3 Performance Makes Doug Martin Better Fantasy Asset

    19 Sep 2014 | 9:51 am
Fantasy football pundits sang the praises of Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bobby Rainey after a strong Week 2 showing, but his Week 3 performance made it clear that he can't be relied upon on a weekly basis. The Bucs were embarrassed by the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night in the form of a 56-14 shellacking. Many players must shoulder the blame for the one-sided defeat, but Rainey is near the top of the list. He lost a pair of fumbles, which the Falcons had no issue cashing in on. Rainey's statistical output ultimately wasn't terrible, as he caught seven passes and racked up 105 total…

Many fantasy owners likely endured a rough matchup during Week 2 of the NFL season. That's because a rash of injuries left several big-name players putting up low numbers. Those owners will be looking to turn things around this weekend. For those that are currently 2-0, all the power to you. If you're worried about some of the stud players expected to shine this season, well, you're not alone. On Sunday, Robert Griffin III, DeSean Jackson, Jamaal Charles A.J. Green, and Ryan Mathews all left their games with injuries. Several rosters were ravaged by those ailments but…
  • Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: Projections for Players with Matchups We Love

    19 Sep 2014 | 9:00 am
If you're off to a bad start in your fantasy football league, at least you can fall back on the fact that the New Orleans Saints are 0-2. Nobody's panicking about the Saints, are they? It's way too early to begin seriously fretting about your team's performance if it has in fact underwhelmed through the first two weeks. The playoffs may come earlier in the fantasy realm than they do in reality, but plenty of time remains for everything to get back on track again. Any good owner knows that you need to peruse the week's schedule and look for potential matchup advantages. You're not going to…
  • Fantasy Football Week 3: Updated Rankings for Sunday's Action

    19 Sep 2014 | 6:00 am
Nothing in fantasy football is given. Owners learned that in Week 2 as a myriad of players left the field, were late scratches or simply laid an egg while lining up on every play. Luckily, the season continues and players can come into Week 3 slightly more prepared. Whether it was Knile Davis, Khiry Robinson or Mohamed Sanu, owners now feel they have struck waiver-wire gold. Several tough matchups have made it nearly impossible to start specific players while others—we're looking at you, Indianapolis Colts—have easy tests this week. Tough decisions are ahead for owners, so we're…

Okay, I realize it's too late for a deep sleeper like this to make a dent in anyone's season at this point, but some of us are in very deep leagues, dammit! Already 27 but had a monster year in the minors, hitting .304/.376/.548 with 26 homers and now 2 more in his last 2 games. With Reynolds/Overbay being mediocre at best all year it seems like this kid might be given a chance for these last few weeks. Any reason not to give him a chance? K-rate in the minors was decent, walks were okay, power was obviously pretty good.

We lost of really good men out there. So many good men. But here we are in Week 3. Somehow, we have to put the pieces back together. The drug vote saga drags on, leaving the suspensions for Josh Gordon and Wes Welker up in the air. Is it worth stashing Gordon at this point if he’s still out there? Probably. I’m still concerned about how much of Gordon’s suspension will actually be reduced, but his abilities as a top-5 fantasy football receiver when he takes the field makes him worth a bench spot at this point. Don’t break the bank with your free agent acquisition budgets just yet, but make sure Gordon is on a roster by week’s end. Speaking of top receivers, I’d love to list Allen…

    19 Sep 2014 | 5:40 am
Top Pick 1. New Orleans Saints (-10) vs. Min – An 0-2 team doesn’t usually warrant being a 10 point favorite. This is not your typical 0-2 team, and they’re back at home where they bury teams. The Vikings will get blown out in this one. Next 2. San Francisco 49ers (-2.5) vs. Arz – The 49ers will get back to doing what they do best and that’s running the ball and not letting Colin Kaerpernick fling it around the field. Rather, they will run a methodical offense and the defense should be fine facing QB Drew Stanton, the likely starter. 3. Miami Dolphins (-3.5) vs KC –…

New Orleans Saints vs. Min – The Saints killed a lot of people’s hopes last week, but they’ll change their fortunes here. Houston Texans vs. NYG – New York’s options on offense are about nil. JJ Watt should have a field day. Miami Dolphins vs. KC – They are a different team at home. St. Louis Rams vs. Dal – Expect the D to dial up pressure against Romo and Co. San Francisco 49ers vs. Arz – They look even better if Carson Palmer can’t go. Sal Surra
    18 Sep 2014 | 11:19 pm
From: Fantasy Smarts After the dust settled on week 2 and waiver claims came in, there were many owners looking at their running back situations and assessing where they were at.  Owners that were able to claim one of the decent options might have good workhorses to put up points in week 3.  Looking at the week ahead […] Originally posted here First and Five – Week 3 Running Back Starts first.

From: Fantasy Smarts There’s all sorts of old adages when it comes to Thursday night fantasy football.  Running backs tend to do better, quarterbacks don’t fare so well, home kickers go off, waterboys turn into unicorns and grant wishes to players, and well you get the idea.  There are no forces at work on Thursdays that can predict […] Originally posted here Week 3 Thursday Night Fantasy Starts first.

From: Fantasy Smarts Some weeks are pretty quiet on the waiver wire, especially on non-bye weeks, but this week is neither.  There were some key injuries to top fantasy players and their backups are certainly worth considering if you either have one of the starters, or need an solid option to play in week 3.  The week 3 […] Originally posted here Week 3 Hot Off The Wire first.

Week two is now in the rearview mirror. The injuries and off the field headlines are getting all of the attention, but there were a few great on the field performances as well, a few of them from some very unlikely sources – that is where I come in! For those of you unfamiliar with the Dynasty Mythbusters series, the goal of the article is to analyze certain trends, potential breakouts or just downright bad play in an attempt to predict what we can expect in the future. Am I always right? Definitely not. But I did suggest that you sell, sell, sell on Trent Richardson very early in the…

If you are even a casual college football fan, you’ve likely had the privilege to see University of Georgia running back Todd Gurley play. If you haven’t seen him, you’ve at least witnessed Twitter unleashed on a Saturday afternoon while Gurley is in action. He’s drawing comparisons to Adrian Peterson and is one of the most highly regarded running back prospects in years. While I’ll leave the deep analysis of Gurley’s game to the Dynasty Scouts team, I will point out a couple of things that now seem to be common assumptions. 1.)  Gurley will end the two year streak which has seen…

    Eric Olinger

One of the more frustrating things in IDP leagues is seeing your stud linebacker fly all over the field on game days only to see the home scorekeeper dilute his performance by divvying up his tackles as an assist. Not everybody knows this, but the NFL does not recognize a tackle as an official statistic. Tackles are scored by the home team’s official scorekeeper and those are the stats you see on news and stats sites. The league made an effort to standardize what is and isn’t a solo tackle back in 2007 when they sent a video to all NFL teams, but it still the discretion of the score…

In developing power rankings for fantasy football it is important to start with points scored as they are the engine that drives your fantasy team.  Dominant offenses produce dominant fantasy players and they are the guys chosen…

FFLockerRoom Sports: Though Glennon completed 75% of his passes during the massacre, he looked every bit the part of a rusty backup struggling even with things as basic as the center exchange. Is it possible for him to continue prospering after changing teams for the first time in his career? Smith has been in the league for a total of 13 years and just began his 14th year. The first thirteen were spent with the Carolina Panthers, who drafted him in the 2001 NFL Draft with the 74th pick in the third round. He showed the team early in his career that he was capable of being the number one target and has stuck to that status quote ever since. The only downfall is that wide receivers…

Are the Vikings Right to Ban Adrian Peterson From Team? The Minnesota Vikings made the announcement around 2 am, which only means the team took about 14 hours to hide from all of the public pressure. Or maybe hide isn’t the best word. I think cower, run, scamper, bolt, run frantically and chicken away would be better examples. At first, the Vikings said that Adrian Peterson should be given due process. However, that quickly changed to an effective suspension. That sudden change of mind makes the team look bad and makes me wish they would’ve just stuck with their wrongheaded stance on this…

  • Arian Foster Questionable for Week 3

    Taylor Smith
    19 Sep 2014 | 1:38 pm
Arian Foster has had two excellent games to start his 2014 season, but his status for Week 3 is in doubt. According to the Texans’ injury report, Foster is listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s tilt with the Giants with a hamstring injury. Foster has been limited in practice in each of the last three days, though all indications previously had been that he’d be good-to-go once game day arrived. He’s carried it 55 times for 241 yards and a score thus far this season and has reestablished himself as a viable fantasy RB1. If Foster misses the game, the other…
  • Breaking Fantasy Football News: AJ Green to Play Week 3?

    Taylor Smith
    19 Sep 2014 | 9:21 am
Cincinnati Bengals WR AJ Green was one of several big-name players to leave their respective games early with injuries last week, and his status for Week 3 has been in doubt all week. However, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, Green woke up Friday with no pain in his injured toe and should be ready to suit up on Sunday. Obviously, if a guy of Green’s caliber is going to be on the field, he’s also going to be in your fantasy lineup. There’s no way you’re stacked enough at that position to consider benching him, regardless of fear. Andy Dalton will throw the ball…
  • Week 3 Fantasy Football Dilemma: Start Matt Asiata or Jerick McKinnon?

    Nick Ercolano
    19 Sep 2014 | 6:54 am
By now you all know about the Adrian Peterson conundrum. With the all-galaxy running back out indefinitely, the Minnesota Vikings will have to choose from the likes of Matt Asiata and their rookie third string running back, Jerick McKinnon. Asiata got the start in Week 2 against the New England Patriots and did a commendable job, at least from the perspective of fantasy owners who picked him up and started him. Playing 68% of the Vikings offensive snaps, Asiata racked up 36 yards on 13 carries for an inefficient 2.8 yards per carry. The receiving aspect of his game saved the day for owners,…
  • Adrian Peterson Done With Vikings?

    Nick Ercolano
    19 Sep 2014 | 6:49 am
In what is quickly turning into one of the biggest headlines in recent NFL history, even with the Ray Rice situation, the Adrian Peterson saga is getting more media attention day by day. For those who live under a rock and do not know the background story, here it is. Last week, Adrian Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges “stemming from an incident in which Peterson allegedly caused cuts to his 4-year-old son’s legs while spanking him with a switch.” Peterson turned himself in and was deactivated for the Vikings Week 2 matchup against the Patriots. Because Adrian Peterson is…
  • Jordan Cameron’s Week Three Status Still Up in the Air

    Nick Ercolano
    19 Sep 2014 | 6:47 am
Jordan Cameron went down in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers with what was later diagnosed as an aggravation of the sprained AC joint he suffered back in training camp. He was listed as day to day, but seeing as how the situation has played out it would have been more fitting to see him listed as week to week. He did not practice at all last week and was inactive in their Week 2 game versus the New Orleans Saints, a game that Hoyer really could have used Cameron seeing as how close the final score was. Cameron finally returned to practice this week on Wednesday. He was limited, but for…

    19 Sep 2014 | 3:46 pm
NEWS: A.J. Green (toe) is listed as probable for Week 3 against the Titans. TAKE: Great news. Unless he suffers a setback, he appears ready to rumble in Week 3. This is great news for Gio Bernard owners, as now defenses can’t just worry about shutting him down. NEWS: Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) was limited in Friday’s practice; Brandon Marshall (ankle) missed practice again Friday. TAKE: Both receivers should be ready for Monday night against the Jets. Check back with us, though, and be certain to sign up for Smart Alerts to get real-time updates on both players. NEWS: Cordarrelle…

SMITTY: This has Niles Paul looking like a top 6-10TE option in Week 3. If in need at the tight end position, make sure Paul isn’t on waivers in your league. Looking for Week 3 Power Rankings? • NEWS: Andre Ellington (foot) returned to practice Thursday; Carson Palmer (shoulder) was limited.

    Smitty
    19 Sep 2014 | 6:11 am
SMITTY: The values of both Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald are directly tied to whether or not Carson Palmer can go, and as of now, Palmer is not looking like a strong bet to play Week 3. While anything can happen on any game day, both receivers almost lose an entire tier of value without their gunslinger under center. As for Ellington, he is expected to play as of now, but of course keep checking back with us on this one, and of course sign up for Smart Alerts so that you can get real-time updates. If good to go, and he’d need to suffer a setback not to go, Ellington should see a…
  • NEWS: Marshawn Lynch was back practicing in full on Thursday.

    Smitty
    19 Sep 2014 | 5:18 am
SMITTY: Marshawn Lynch appears in no danger of missing Week 3 — He is a top 4-7RB play in Week 3. All Beast Mode owners should own his back-ups (Robert Turbin and Christine Michael, or at least one if in a smaller league), as Lynch is one of the most aggressive rushers in the league, and he has a ton of milage. He could make it through the entire season, sure, but planning ahead is smart given the mileage and aggressive style (mixed with the back issues). Looking for Week 3 Power Rankings? The post NEWS: Marshawn Lynch was back practicing in full on Thursday. appeared first on Fantasy…
  • NEWS: Roddy White and Doug Martin both inactive for Week 3; Bobby Rainey a RB1 this week and Harry Douglas a sneaky fantasy WR3?

    Smitty
    18 Sep 2014 | 4:46 pm
SMITTY: Bobby Rainey is a fantasy RB1 against a Falcons rushing defense that gives up over 150 rushing yards per game and has surrendered 5TDs through the first two weeks. Get Roddy White out of your line-up, and consider Harry Douglas as a spot play this week if you’re in need. Even if you don’t own White, Douglas is a sneaky start if desperate at your fantasy WR3. Julio Jones owners better get ready for a big Week 3! Looking for Week 3 Power Rankings? The post NEWS: Roddy White and Doug Martin both inactive for Week 3; Bobby Rainey a RB1 this week and Harry Douglas a sneaky…

Quarterbacks to Start Week 3 Matt Ryan, (vs TMB): With both teams defenses struggling I think this should have a lot of scoring.   Ryan has done well against the Bucs in the past and Tampa defense has allowed the highest amount of deep passes completed to opposing teams Jay Cutler (vs NYJ): With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery questionable to play against a 49ers, we didn’t know how Cutler would do. As it turned out Marshall and Jeffery did play and Cutler put up four touchdowns on the 49ers. This week he plays the Jets who are giving up the most touchdown passes to opposing…

First place was over $120,000(Nearly 5,000 people will win a prize) and you’re playing against over 30,000 other people. If you play in these one-week leagues against so many people, it’s important to start players that other…

Quarterbacks to Start Week 2 Nick Foles (at IND): Foles didn’t  start off well  in Week 1 against the Jaguars, but ended up finishing with 322 passing yards and two touchdowns.   Week 2 should be more of the same. The Colts allowed Peyton to throw three touchdowns  to his TE Thomas(Zack Ertz should have a good day) Jake Locker (vs. DAL): I know most Fantasy owners don’t need to rely on Locker yet, but he has a great match up in the Cowboys. Building off of his 18 plus fantasy points a game last season, he played great in Week 1 with 266 passing yards, two touchdowns and no…
  • Free Agent Finds – Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickups

A crazy week one that included the Ravens releasing Ray Rice on Monday, now gives Justin Forsett  the chance to be a starting running back for Baltimore for the rest of the season. He will clearly be the most popular player on the Waiver Wires in Week 2 since he was not owned in many leagues. Quarterbacks Locker, QB Tennessee Titans: started off great last season before injuries ruined his year. He started off this season great again this year with 23 Fantasy points against the Chiefs in Week 1. He should stay hot again in Week 2 against the Cowboys, but he gets hit a lot and has a tough…
