Chip Kelly continued turning the Philadelphia Eagles into University of Oregon-East on Tuesday. The Eagles acquired running back Kenjon Barner from the Panthers for a conditional seventh-round pick, bringing the total of former Ducks on the Eagles' current roster to nine. Barner is a small-but-exciting player. He was drafted in the sixth round last year but saw only six carries in Carolina. As a senior at Oregon in 2012, Barner gained more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 23 touchdowns while being coached by Kelly. Krasovic wrote Tuesday that Floyd was the Most Valuable Player of Chargers training camp "in a runaway." This comes about a month after Krasovic named Floyd the team's spring MVP. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Krasovic also said, "There wasn't a cornerback who faced him that Floyd failed to roast once." That might say more about the Chargers' pass defense than anything else since that unit ranked 29th in the league last season. Floyd has…

The post 2014 Bold Prediction #8 – Jeremy Maclin – FREE appeared first on Fantasy Football Xtreme.Last season Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL early on in training camp, this year he looks primed to bounce back as potentially Nick Foles’ most talented target. With the departure of Desean Jackson, the door is wide open for the #1 WR slot in Philadelphia. Even before Jackson’s departure, Maclin was actually more of the favorite target. Since entering the league Maclin has accumulated 426 targets, that’s 60 more targets during that same time frame than the much more heralded Desean…

    20 Aug 2014 | 6:46 am
I picked up Bradshaw in our rookie/FA draft over the weekend and was wondering what other people thought of him. I've heard how injury prone he is, how he can never make it through a season. However through his first 6 years he only missed 12 games. Of course he had the neck injury last season, but let's assume for my purposes this isn't a Wilson/Best scenario. Bradshaw has averaged 4.6 YPC for his career and had 4.5 YPC in his three games with Indy last year. Richardson came in and averaged 2.9 YPC for the same team over the 14 games he was a Colt. Of course Indy wants TRich to be the guy.

For those playing in at least one snake draft league, this thread is for you.   All things about draft position - gloats, gripes, abject panic, and cool story bros.  Plus debate over the merits of trading draft spots (for leagues where you can do that).    So what's the best and worst position to have in a snake draft this year?  Did you get what you wanted, and if not what position are you attempting to trade into?  For my first draft, drew the 1.12 and have an offer to go to the 1.07 and very seriously considering it.
  • A. Ellington -- Worth a 2nd Round Reach in PPR?

    20 Aug 2014 | 5:36 am
I've got the 7th pick in a 12 team PPR league. First round is no problem: I'll take whatever falls of Calvin Johnson, J. Graham, and E. Lacy.   In the 2nd round, I'd ideally like to find a RB to fit a "run n shoot" offense where I can play either 3 WR/2 TE or 4 WR/ 1 TE. While I pick at #18 in round 2, Ellington seems to go mid 20s after I pick.   Is he worth the slight reach understanding the above?   All the other RBs that are getting drafted in that area seem to have some serious warts:   * L. Bell (L. Blount) * A. Foster (injuries, lousy offense) * M. Lynch (probably…

I've read once or twice (or tons of times) about people scripting out their projections.  So, how much detail do people go into on these projections?  What are the mechanics you use to do this?  Myself, it just feels like I use guesswork and gut instinct, which isn't that good.  Bias leaks in all over the place.  For instance, prepping the way I have, I will once again have every Bear player rated lower than other people have them just because I keep thinking they are playing better than their talent level and they shouldn't be that good.  So I miss out on some…

  • Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel's Fantasy Outlook After Starting QB Announcement

    20 Aug 2014 | 6:25 am
The Cleveland Browns named Brian Hoyer their starting quarterback ahead of Johnny Manziel as they prepare for their third preseason game. While the situation is worrisome for fantasy football owners, the rookie sensation still possesses more upside for 2014.  Cleveland confirmed the decision early Wednesday: It's the right call in terms of leading the offense at this stage. He's the more experienced option and did flash some strong play during limited action last season. Since neither quarterback lit it up during the first two exhibition games, he gets the job almost by default. The…

  • Fantasy Football 2014: 1st-Round Mock Draft and Creative Team Names

    20 Aug 2014 | 4:00 am
In the world of fantasy football, the first round is the most important thing—but a great team name is a close second. A wrong move in the first round can cripple a team beyond repair depending on the severity of the gaffe (such as grabbing a quarterback not named Peyton), but a bad team name is a serious misstep. A cliche or cringe-worthy name makes a losing season even worse, and a league-winning owner who touts such a name is hard to take seriously. The best owners excel in both areas, so let's take a look at an updated first-round mock based on standard leagues and some more unique…

Here is a completely unsubstantiated theory to share with you—the talented Bleacher Report editing team likely won't even let this fly (they certainly will roll their eyes, at least): Catastrophic fantasy football injuries tend to come early in training camp, early when full-go contact begins and early in the season. That makes preseason Week 3 the full dress rehearsal for teams really important to watch, especially at the risk-ridden running back position. We break down that and all the rankings, risers, fallers and provide a review of the sleepers in this weekly slideshow, a…

(Eric Hartline, USA TODAY Sports) Are you overvaluing Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver [autotag]Jeremy Maclin[/autotag] in fantasy football drafts? According to the most recent drafting statistics from FantasyFootballCalculator.com, Maclin’s ADP is 25th among receivers, landing him in the late fifth round of non-PPR drafts. That is fair. A closer look reveals Maclin has come off the board as early as Pick 4:02, which is a reach. The veteran receiver tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in July of 2013, costing him the entire NFL season. Normally, that wouldn’t be such a big…

    23 Nov 2013 | 3:46 pm
Matchups has it all. Certified advice from Keepers says you can start Eli Manning this week and dislikes Antonio Brown’s chances against Joe Haden. Does Haden have an island yet? Matthew Berry doesn’t love bullies, but he does love Zac Stacy, Ben Tate, and Mike Glennon, just to name a few. The Sablich brothers at The New York Times like Rashad Jennings to continue his hot streak. Bob Henry of FootballGuys.com thinks this is the week Colin Kaepernick comes back to fantasy life. He’s got some good sleeper potential. He’s even ranked in the top 10 this week at Rotoworld.

  • 2014 Fantasy Football D/ST Rankings: 11-20

    admin
    10 Aug 2014 | 12:32 pm
    11. Houston Texans – They should bounce back. The D never had a chance last year with the offense playing so ineptly. 12. Baltimore Ravens – This is a fantasy sleeper and could end up top 6. Another D/ST that was hurt by horrible offensive play. 13. Pittsburgh Steelers – They’ve invested in a lot of young talent that past few years. Expect Lebeau to get the most out of it. 14. Detroit Lions – This unit was undisciplined a year ago. The new regime will have the front 7 humming. 15. Cleveland Browns – They were a very solid D/ST in 2013. A better offense will…

    1. Seattle Seahawks – Until proven otherwise. 2. Denver Broncos – The Broncos invested heavily in this side of the ball. 3. Carolina Panthers – Look for step back to the pack in 2014. The offense may take a step back which puts the D on the field for longer than it’d like. 4. San Francisco 49ers – The secondary is uncertain and injuries abound, with LB Navarro Bowman the biggest. Still solid, but beware of upside. 5. Arizona Cardinals – The issue is the division they play in, but very solid group. 6. St. Louis Rams – This group has the highest upside of…

    11. Martellus Bennett, Chi – Solid 3rd option for Cutler. 12. Zach Ertz, Phi – He’ll get more love from Foles in his 2nd year. Kelly uses TEs creatively. 13. Antonio Gates, SD – He’s the veteran of the group but still a low No. 1 TE / high No. 2. 14. Ladarius Green, SD – Green has freakish ability and will prove a nightmare matchup for defenses. His only question is how many balls he’ll see his way. 15. Charles Clay, Mia – He is a big part of the Dolphins Offense. 16. Dwayne Allen, Ind – Was Luck’s favorite TE prior to his season ending injury in…

    1. Jimmy Graham, NO –  No question here. He’ll likely go in the 1st round of your fantasy draft. 2. Julius Thomas, Den – Manning loves throwing to his explosive TE. 3. Rob Gronkowski, NE – This depends on his health. He may start off slow like a year ago while recovering from an ACL. 4. Jason Witten, Dal – The Cowboys will be playing from behind this year. 5. Jordan Cameron, Cle – Irrespective of who starts, Cameron will be a big part of the offense. 6. Vernon Davis, SF – Lots of receiving threats, only so many balls to go around. 7. Dennis Pitta, Bal…

Larry Fitzgerald, Arz – Look for Larry to be a borderline No. 1 / high No. 2 in Arian’s offense. 13. Keenan Allen, SD – Could emerge as a fantasy stud and top 10 WR in his 2nd year. 14. Andre Johnson, Hou – The big question mark is at QB, but O’brien will use Johnson properly. 15. DeSean Jackson, Was – RGIII will make use of his speed. 16. With fantasy season right around the corner, we’re continuing our annual series focusing on a few sleepers from all 32 teams in the NFL. You can find all of the Summer Sleeper articles here. These sleepers all have varying levels of “sleeperness,” but all merit a little more talking about here in the Premium Content section. Some of these players are deep dynasty sleepers who could merit a spot on your bench in a deep league, while others are players who may contribute a little faster than the deep prospects, but deserve more attention than they may be getting. By definition, a sleeper…

Remember, our Dynasty Scouts section focuses on the stars of tomorrow, with a laser focus on High School recruits and College players who look to have the talent to be future assets in dynasty leagues and have value today in devy leagues. Football is an extremely physical game and is decided by inches. However, these inches appear in many different facets such as a step in the wrong direction. One false step can cause a defender to give up a touchdown or a running back to get tackled in the backfield. These inches can also be…

So far this summer, the focus on sleepers here at DLF has been on the offensive side of the ball. Steve Wyremski and I are going to be rolling out IDP summer sleepers across the conferences over the next few weeks. As always, these sleepers will be of varying levels – some of the stash variety and others who could breakout in 2014. As we’ve highlighted previously, scheme changes, coaching changes, and position changes can significantly alter IDP value and present arbitrage opportunities for owners. Based on those items and training camp thus far, here are some AFC South sleepers: Sorry,…

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to kick a bad habit… losing down the stretch. Jim Harbaugh came aboard the organization in January of 2011. Since then, they have made it to the conference championship every single year. Close, but no cigar. In 2011, they lost the NFC championship to the Giants, the eventual Super Bowl champs. The next year, they made it to the big dance, but lost to the Ravens. In 2013, they made it to the conference championship again, only to lose to the eventual Super Bowl victors, the Seattle Seahawks. Losing is a tough habit to break. The…

Trying to make some Green backs kid?—-Photo Credit: Jeffrey Beall “Tiers, Not Fears” is a series on the (worth discussing) fantasy football positions. Players are in rank order, but are grouped in tiers with players who are very close in value. Whether drafting or doing an auction, having your positions organized in tiers helps you to decide during your draft/auction if you need to strike on a positional need, or if you can afford to wait a round or two before filling a position. The tight end position is pretty much the same as it’s been the last few years: full of…

The Carolina Panthers must be really sure of themselves at the running back position because they just traded Kenjon Barner to the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional seventh-round pick in next year’s draft. Barner who was buried behind Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert on the depth chart might not have made the 53-man roster.  In Philly, Barner likely assumes the same spot in which he left as the 4th RB on the roster. But the difference being, the guy directly ahead of him, Chris Polk, has been battling a hamstring injury and missed a lot of practice. This could…

Offensively, First they traded away pass gobbling scat-back Darren Sproles to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth round pick. Initial reaction from fans around the country was one of confusion. What the title is referring to is the need to make those final trades in order to secure victory. There are still many leagues who’s trading deadline has not passed, as they subscribe to the same theory as MLB. Why not allow trading later in the season if it’s going to help people win. Granted, MLB has waivers first, but that’s also real sports. This is fantasy. Anyway, on to the point. I hear from…

Can Santonio Holmes Still Be a Key Contributor For The Bears? Santonio Holmes, the 30 years old wide receiver who is entering his 9th season as a pro, is now confirmed part of Chicago Bears roster. Santonio Holmes and his camp didn’t lose their hope that a team will sign him even after the free agency came and went without any team showing interest at him. Even though he is the best wide receiver available at the free-agent market, his off-field antics surely prevented him from signing with any NFL team until Saturday when the Bears signed him to a contract. • Underrated Fantasy Football Players in 2014: Quarterbacks

    James Blews
    20 Aug 2014 | 6:00 am
Quarterbacks are not a position that people see as underrated fantasy football players. Most of the time, 1-10 might the only ones that matter to you. However, you might be wrong… Tom Brady – New England Tom Brady owners have seen his fantasy football stock as of late over the course of the last 12 months. Dealing with injuries to key parts of the offense, specifically Rob Gronkowski, has been negative in the impact left on his scoring potential this season. It’s about the touchdowns, baby Most draft strategies, even simple “fantasy draft 101″ stuff, calls for…

For those new, and even veteran players, of fantasy football, the terms we use as fantasy owners can occasionally seem foreign. Today, we are going to go over these definitions and more. Positions and Abbreviations There are many abbreviations for positions in football and in fantasy football. Each is considered dominant, meaning, if you ever come upon an abbreviation that could mean something else, chances are, it doesn’t. I’m going to cover basic positions that relate to standard leagues. This means I will not be looking at individual defensive positions, nor at any linemen. QB…

Fantasy football draft strategy is more of a predictive science. Today we are going to go ZEN and really look at the overall picture of what fantasy football drafting is, and what it’s not and how you can win at it, in any league. What do I mean? Well, think about this. You could have the right rankings for your fantasy players, along with some solid fantasy football tiers. You, after reading this website, will know how to set up both in an effort to get the most solid value out of each pick. But after starting the draft, you aren’t going to always be the #5 draft pick. James Blews
    22 Jul 2014 | 1:57 am
Fantasy football sleepers are a big area of analysis. The reason why is that they can give your team and draft a ton more value. Who are some deep sleepers? I will say this before I get started – some of these players are extremely “hands-off”. Fantasy football owners just don’t want to touch them. However, this opens them up to be taken late in a draft, or sometimes, not at all. Their loss is your gain, right? Ryan Tannehill (QB – Miami Dolphins) Ryan Tannehill has not had the greatest history in Miami. Last season, with speedster Mike Wallace, and a growing…

Despite both Manziel and veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer playing poorly in Cleveland’s second preseason game, head coach Mike Pettine deemed Hoyer’s experience and poise to be better than Manziel’s and gave him the job to start the year. As much hype as the “competition” got, it really didn’t seem like Manziel ever stood much of a chance. His off field behavior and middle finger to the Redskins bench on Monday night surely didn’t help, but in a…

The 2014 fantasy football season is going to be here before you know it and we can tell by how loud the sweat is that’s dripping on your keyboard. It sound scrazy, but we can tell. We get it, too. It makes perfectly good sense to be nervous as balls about fantasy football this year, especially after the first round from hell of a year ago. Aaron Rodgers, Arian Foster, Doug Martin and C.J. Spiller wasted little time tearing your heart out of your chest, and thanks to them there’s a pretty good chance your house is now on it’s second mortgage. If so, our condolences (but not…

The 2014 fantasy football season is rapidly approaching. If you wisely saved your league’s draft for middle to late August, kudos to you. However, even if you waited, the time to prep and be ready is ticking away, which means if you haven’t already, now is a good time to compile your own rankings, develop some type of draft day cheat sheet and figure out which side of the line you reside on numerous questions concering sleepers and top names. Do you trust the likes of Doug Martin, C.J. Spiller and Arian Foster after getting burned a year ago? Are you on board with sleepers like…

Jamaal Charles is the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s just get that out in the open. He even was going to holdout for a new contract, and it took literally one day for the Chiefs to realize, “oh, shit, he’s our best player – like by far” and then pay that man his money. They didn’t say it in a thick Russian accent, but then again, maybe they did. And then they paid him. Him being, naturally, THE ENTIRE CHIEFS OFFENSE. That’s Jamaal Charles in a nutshell. So draft him. I don’t need to go back and forth over whether he’s the big winner between him…
  • 5 Players You Probably Shouldn’t Draft in Fantasy Football

    Kevin Roberts
    11 Aug 2014 | 3:54 pm
A huge part of winning in fantasy football is knowing when to draft a guy other people hate and when to leave the sad sacks to the fools in your league. I don’t really count injury prone guys as sad sacks. Ryan Mathews used to be a sad sack in that regard, and then he crushed it in 2013. Arian Foster, Doug Martin and C.J. Spiller sad sacked all over your team last year, too, but they otherwise haven’t been injury prone and have great bounce back appeal. I’d throw Aaron Rodgers and Julio Jones into the mix, too. I also have unconditional love for Rob Gronkowski, so…

According to ESPN, Falcons WR Julio Jones is “set to return to a normal practice routine” after his final day of rest on Tuesday. SMITTY: All signs point to Julio Jones being ready to rumble — Unless he suffers a setback, he remains locked into my top 2-4WRs for 2014, and he sits at my #1WR in dynasty. No player since Randy Moss has had this kind of triple-threat upside in all three categories of receptions, yards and TDs. Looking for Week 1 Julio Jones Power Rankings?. • NEWS: Ben Tate rushes for 51 yards on 10 carries on Monday; Is Tate a monster steal in drafts?

    Smitty
    19 Aug 2014 | 5:05 am
In Monday night’s preseason contest against the Redskins, Browns RB Ben Tate ran the ball 10 times for 51 yards; rookie Terrance West ran the ball eight times for 31 yards. SMITTY: There is no better sneaky RB2 right now in drafts if you ask me. I have scooped him up in two expert drafts in the last 48 hours, and I got him at the top of the 6th-round in both, and saw him go at 6.01 in another draft I’m currently drafting in. That’s value! Is Terrance West a must-own for all Tate owners? Absolutely, but West has roughly an 8th-round ADP, so he can be scooped up no question,…

According to csnphilly, Eagles RB LeSean McCoy is dealing with a toe issue. SMITTY: McCoy said that the toe was really bothering him, but he had x-rays and an MRI and everything appears fine. He was able to finish practice today. We aren’t too concerned at this point, but let’s keep an eye on the guy I have ranked No. 1 overall heading into 2014. Darren Sproles is a must-own for all McCoy owners heading into 2014. The post NEWS: LeSean McCoy dealing with turf toe? appeared first on Fantasy Football Starters.
