  • 2015 NFL Draft Rumors: Eagles, Browns and Titans Talking 3-Team Trade?

    Breaking Football
    Kevin Roberts
    24 Apr 2015 | 12:02 pm
The trade rumors are ramping up as we get closer to the 2015 NFL Draft, and all the talk of a Marcus Mariota trade won’t be going away until the draft gets going. In fact, we might be hearing several more draft trade rumors before that point, as the Tennessee Titans hold the #2 overall pick and appear to have all the power in negotiations. Recent rumors swirling around the league have the Titans potentially doing a three-team deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. Said deal would include Sam Bradford (to Cleveland for the Browns’ 19th overall pick), Philly’s…

The work is never done for fantasy football owners who play in dynasty leagues, where rosters carry over from year to year. Instead of being able to scrap most, if not all, of your roster and start from scratch the following season, these owners have to manage their rosters like real NFL general managers do.  So there are many fantasy owners out there who are wheeling and dealing this offseason because they are in dynasty leagues. This column is for those of you who believe the buy-low, sell-high philosophy that works well in the stock market also works in fantasy football when it comes…

Since there is only so much NFL Draft news you can discuss, here is a breakdown of fantasy points per touch on a team basis over the past few seasons.   Obviously there are a lot of factors that go into how well a team does to fuel fantasy RB production (talent of RB, scheme, health, OL, game planning, opposition, use of specialists in the red zone or 3rd down, workload, involvement in passing game, etc.).   Over the years, I have found this type of data useful in drafting or rostering backs from environments that are conducive to putting up fantasy numbers should injuries hit…

Welcome to April, fantasy footballers. NFL fans everywhere are counting down the days until the draft at the end of the month, and that means it's time for you, my friends, to start your 2015 fantasy football prep. It's been another quiet offseason here at FFLibrarian but I hope to start ramping things up soon. All is well in my world - my boys are 4.5 and 1.5 and have proven to be delightful little people the majority of the time. My oldest went through a phase of constantly wearing football jerseys last summer and apparently he's busting that fashion statement back out this spring.

Sorry for the total silence here the past week or so - the holidays tend to do that, but probably like many of you, the flu hit our house and I'm still recovering a bit. So far it seems to have just gotten our youngest kiddo - who is totally fine now but whew, rough Christmas day - and me, and I have all my fingers and toes crossed that the other half of our family is staying healthy. Here's hoping you all stayed flu-free and have had a great week of holiday fun. I know Week 17 is almost complete and with that, the 2014 fantasy football season is about over...or is it? Want the fantasy season…

Apologies for the posting delay here - it has been a long week in the FFLibrarian household. Three out of four of us are on antibiotics and yet we miraculously made it through unscathed during our flight up to DC for some pre-Christmas celebrations with my family. I was sure there would be tales of ear infection pain horror coupled with copious use of the barf bags. But we made it without incident and the only side effect seems to be my inability to post here on time. Here's Jen last start/sit post for the season - enjoy! And don't worry, this awesome crew of writers and I will be around here…

    22 Apr 2015 | 12:05 am
Head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider began gradually shifting the scheme for the Seattle Seahawks stars in 2015. The focus will still flow through Marshawn Lynch and the running game, but Jimmy Graham’s arrival signals an increased emphasis on Russell Wilson and a passing attack. Seattle’s overall offense accomplished a No. 9 rank in yards and a No. 10 in scoring in 2014, finishing 12th in fantasy points. The Seahawks' offensive success derived from the league’s strongest rushing attack, averaging a league-leading 172.6 yards per game and 20 touchdowns.

The 2015 NFL Draft has a lot of unique defenders that can play multiple positions and the next one I want to discuss is Utah’s defensive back Eric Rowe.  He played his first three seasons as a safety and then switched to corner back his senior season.  While watching him, one can see that the defender never left his physical style behind when he moved to corner.  I reviewed four of his games against Michigan, Washington State, UCLA, and Arizona to get a better feel for what the young man brings to the next level.  Here is what I saw: CB/S Eric Rowe, Utah 6’ 1” 205 lbs. Cons:  The…

As the NFL Draft is quickly approaching, here are a few running backs that won’t go early that might have some fantasy value down the road.  One of those is Michigan State’s Jeremy Langford.  I watched three of his games against Purdue, Ohio State, and in state rival Michigan to get a better viewpoint of the skills and attributes he can bring to the next level.  Here are my thoughts: RB Jeremy Langford, Michigan State, 6’ 208 lbs. Cons: The runner is more smooth than physical, which works well in the Big Ten, but not as well in the NFL.  He only has decent vision and didn’t always…

A lot of fantasy owners hate having to deal with closers, but not me. While you read a lot of “don’t pay for saves” idioms being thrown out there, the fact is, if you play in a league that uses closers, you HAVE to pay for saves. Me? I cast a wide net and try to come away with at least four closers to ensure I have some insurance. My name
    18 Apr 2015 | 10:03 am
Every fantasy football league has that one owner who drafts a rookie quarterback way too early. Rookie quarterbacks historically have it rough their first couple of years in the NFL, so why waste a pick?  Sure it may have worked-out for those owners who drafted Andrew Luck or RGIII in 2012, but weren't their rookie years anomalies? There are two big-name quarterbacks coming out of the NFL draft in 2015, two Heisman Trophy winners at that.  Let's compare their potential fantasy value of Jameis Winston vs Marcus Mariota heading into the 2015 fantasy football season. Jameis Winston -…

Over the past decade, it has been much of the same in the NFL: the same teams keep winning and the same teams keep losing. Adrian Peterson = $11.75 Million Sure Adrian Peterson didn't play the entire season, but his 15-game suspension was self-inflicted. There is a current trend in the NFL to give quarterbacks as much money as they demand with little thought about the near future of the franchise. Well, teams that have done this are starting to see the negative side-effects of doing so. Dedicating between 10 and 20 percent of a team’s entire salary cap to one player is a recipe for disaster, especially when other big name players reach the end of their respective contracts. Players in the NFL know what they are worth, and if the team that they are currently with is unable to pay them their asking price, then they will likely find…

Each week we’ll highlight some of the players that are likely available on the waiver wire in your league and point out who might be someone to consider adding to your roster. Most of the time, these will not be All-Stars as those players will already be rostered. These names represent guys who are hot or showing some new found skill set that could make them valuable to you if you have a hole in your lineup either through a poor draft or recent injury. After Yordano Ventura mouthed some expletives towards Adam Eaton during a routine comebacker, both benches cleared and five players ultimately got ejected. Ventura, opposing starter Chris Sale, Lorenzo Cain, Edinson Volquez and Jeff Samardzija were all thrown out for their parts in the brawl. Ventura and Sale were pitching effectively through seven innings with the game tied 2-2. This is the third straight start which Ventura has found himself in the middle of a benches-clearing incident. The other incidents included friction with the A’s Brett Lawrie and Mike Trout of the Angels. It…

It is the position where one or two bad outings can cost a player his job and give a teammate an opportunity. On a weekly basis we will present you with pertinent information and highlight any trends that could help you manage this aspect of your roster. It somewhat killed the rumor of Eagles trading up for Marcus Mariota at the upcoming NFL Draft day. • 2015 NFL Draft Rumors: Eagles, Browns and Titans Talking 3-Team Trade?

    Kevin Roberts
    16 Apr 2015 | 8:16 am
The Washington Redskins are somewhat in limbo entering the 2015 NFL Draft. They technically have a franchise passer to go to war with if you consider talent and upside, but they also really don’t know at all what they have in quarterback Robert Griffin III. Second-year head coach Jay Gruden is patching things up on both sides of the ball, and as bad as things looked a year ago, this Redskins team might actually be some competent quarterback play away from taking a big, positive step forward. The question on everyone’s mind, of course, is whether or not RG3 is the guy. Do the…
  • 2015 NFL Draft: What New York Giants Need to Do in Draft

    Terrence Kirker
    16 Apr 2015 | 6:16 am
Looking at the New York Giants‘ roster from last season to now, it’s easy to find holes that need to be filled. Long-time GM Ernie Accorsi was a master for the Giants in terms of personnel for so many years. Current GM Jerry Reese has not deviated from the roots of Accorsi when it comes to drafting players, but finding guys to fill needs that were not addressed via the draft he has been subpar. The Giants draft-day strategy is no secret: Best Available Player. I scratched my head a little when they took Odell Beckham Jr. with the first pick last year because I thought there were…
  • 2015 NFL Draft: Scouting West Virginia’s Kevin White

    Keet Bailey
    13 Apr 2015 | 8:19 am
Kevin White wasn’t necessarily a guy that was a lock to be taken among the top 15 a year ago, but after a sensational senior season at West Virginia in 2014, it’s hard to see him going anywhere but inside the top five. White blew up in 2014, hauling in 109 receptions and putting up over 1,400 receiving yards. Blessed with a great combination of size and speed, White combines with Amari Cooper to produce a very top-heavy wide receiver class that rivals the one we saw just a few years ago with Julio Jones and A.J. Green. Let’s break down White’s game to see what makes…

We are less than a month away from the 2015 NFL Draft, and there could not be any more smoke. Whether it’s teams reportedly talking up Marcus Mariota, or potential trades involving players such as Sam Bradford to use as ammo to move up in the draft, the smoke screens are here and they’re probably not going away. Regardless, now is the time to believe absolutely none of what you hear. The fact regarding weak quarterback drafts is that guys rated as Top 10 picks tend to fall. Jameis Winston is a lock to be drafted #1 and Leonard Williams is a lock for #2 overall, IMO. Marcus Mariota…
