With our fantasy football drafts approaching, it is time to look at the rookies who have a chance to make an impact on the fantasy football landscape in 2015. These are the relevant rookies at the core skill positions and their projected draft round in standard 12-team fantasy football leagues. There was a time that we would avoid all rookie QBs and WRs that came into the league. However, the game has changed at the collegiate and professional level in ways that allow talented QBs to step under center and talented WRs to line up and be productive immediately. • Steelers WR Markus Wheaton probably had the best offseason of the team's wideouts

    29 Jul 2015 | 2:38 am
While Steelers second-year wideout Martavis Bryant is getting all the attention in Pittsburgh after his dynamic rookie season, he was not the star of the offseason. Markus Wheaton probably had the best offseason of all the Steelers' receivers. Wheaton was a popular sleeper pick last season but ended up becoming an afterthought after a solid start to the season. Bryant stole his thunder and his job. Wheaton caught six passes for 97 yards Week 1, he never matched either total again on 2014. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This may very well be true but it's tough to buy in on Wheaton. He is clearly the…
  • Cowboys RB Ryan Williams place on I.R.

    29 Jul 2015 | 2:15 am
The Cowboys put Ryan Williams on I.R. today after he cleared waivers. Williams has never been the same since suffering a devastating patellar injury. Dallas filled his roster spot with Gus Johnson. Odds are Williams will never see a carry in a Cowboys uniform. He hasn't received a single touch since 2012 thanks to his bulky knee. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Williams was expected to play a role in Dallas this season but that is no longer the case. His knee just can't hold up anymore. The injury is very similar to one Victor Cruz suffered last season. Don't expect a whole lot out of Gus Johnson either.
  • Ravens WR Kamar Aiken 'consistently worked with the first-team offense' this offseason

    29 Jul 2015 | 1:56 am
The Ravens WR2 job is completely up in the air heading into training camp. After Steve Smith there is an open competition. Both Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken have been the two most-impressive wideouts this offseason. Rookie Breshad Perriman and Michael Campanaro are in the mix as well. However, it's Aiken that has "consistently worked with the first-team offense" at OTAs and minicamp. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The WR2 in Baltimore could have sneaky good value this season. Aiken may very well end up being the started but Brown may hold more value. He could emerge as the team's top red zone target.
  • Rams RB Tre Mason expected to 'play a significant role' regardless of Todd Gurley's availability

    29 Jul 2015 | 1:19 am
According to the Rams official website, even if rookie Todd Gurley is a "full go" on Week 1, Tre Mason is still expected to "play a significant role within the offense". Myles Simmons went as far to say that even if Gurley is healthy it's "more probable" that Mason opens up the season as the starter. This is in part due to head coach Jeff Fisher's conservative tendencies when it comes to utilizing rookies. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Mason will probably have a ton of value moving forward, especially in the next few weeks. Gurley is going to soar up draft charts and Mason is going to drop. There is…

However, even the NFL will admit to the off-season being over now. As I’m writing this, there are actual professional football players attending training camp. Alert the guards. Football is here. I’ve been fortunate enough to build a very deep and competitive team in the eight-year-old league. The responses I see and hear upon sharing my roster are often the same. “Is that a two team league?” “You must be playing against morons!” “Is this a real team?” And finally, “How did you build that team?” In this article, I’ll address each of those questions, but will heavily focus on the last one. Exactly how did I build such a strong…

  • Brandon Marshall’s Fantasy Football Value in 2015 with the New York Jets

    My name

The Chicago Bears made a shocking move in early March by shipping wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets in return for nothing more than the fifth-round draft selection in the 2015 NFL Draft (which was ultimately used to draft a safety). Poor Brandon. As if Jay Cutler wasn’t bad enough, now he’ll be trying to catch balls from Geno Smith.  Marshall's fantasy potential has definitely taken a hit, his stock plummeting when news of the trade was made public. So how does Brandon Marshall rank among wide receiver in 2015 and where you should be draft him this…

Rookie quarterbacks historically have it rough their first couple of years in the NFL, so why waste a pick?  Sure it may have worked-out for those owners who drafted Andrew Luck or RGIII in 2012, but weren't their rookie years anomalies? There are two big-name quarterbacks coming out of the NFL draft in 2015, two Heisman Trophy winners at that.  Let's compare their potential fantasy value of Jameis Winston vs Marcus Mariota heading into the 2015 fantasy football season. The 2014 NFL season is behind us.  The New England Patriots have won yet another Super Bowl, cementing both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick's place among the all-time greats. Over the past decade, it has been much of the same in the NFL: the same teams keep winning and the same teams keep losing. In the NBA, there has been much more turnover at the top for the past few seasons. The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are among the league’s worst teams despite winning championships within the past 8 seasons.  Now, the Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, and Cleveland…
  • Top 10 Overpaid NFL Players of 2014

    My name
    11 Mar 2015 | 7:14 am
In the NFL millions and millions of dollars get thrown around every year. Many of the players in the league work hard for their money throughout their careers; however, some players have millions of dollars thrown at them for seemingly nothing. Let's take a look at some of the most overpaid players in the NFL today: 10. Adrian Peterson = $11.75 Million Sure Adrian Peterson didn't play the entire season, but his 15-game suspension was self-inflicted. The child abuse scandal also turned into a PR nightmare for the Vikings who both finished with a losing record (7-9) and lost one of the best…

  • Nationals land Jonathan Papelbon

    Bill Brennan
    29 Jul 2015 | 1:28 am
The Phillies granted Jonathan Papelbon his wish and traded him to a contender. The Nationals sent minor league pitcher Nick Pivetta to Philadelphia in exchange for the 34-year old closer, who has 17 saves this season with a 1.73 ERA. In addition to Papelbon, Washington has closer Drew Storen in the bullpen and now boast one of the best 8th – 9th inning combos in the league. Storen’s fantasy value takes a hit as he will most likely be demoted to the set-up role. The highly anticipated promotion of the Phillies’ Ken Giles to the closer role began last night, and he picked up…

    28 Jul 2015 | 5:14 pm
Reports out of Tampa Bay continue to point toward the Buccaneers favoring RB Doug Martin. Coming off another down season, Doug Martin reports have stated that he is having his best off season in his past 3 years. Martin has slimmed down this off season, down to 210lbs which is his lowest yet (223 at the 2012 combine). 2nd-year RB Charles Sims is expected to see a increase in play as well as a natural pass catcher. Sims has great hands and abilities to make defenders miss out in open space and was actually drafted to be the pass catching back. Now, Martin has continued to see first team reps…
  • Ben Zobrist to the KC Royals

    28 Jul 2015 | 11:57 am
According to ESPN’s Jim Bowden, the Kansas City Royals have acquired Ben Zobrist from the Oakland Athletics. The Royals have been very busy trying to get over the hump this year as Zobrist now joins Johnny Cueto as a big name free agent get. Zobrist can take over second base for the disappointing Omar Infante (.230 average) and he could also play left field until Alex Gordon returns. Clearly the Royals are gunning to win now. The better ballpark and more complete team should give a boost to Zobrist’s stats the rest of the way.
  • Le’Veon Bell negotiating reduced suspension

    28 Jul 2015 | 9:52 am
The NFL and Le’Veon Bell are in the process of negotiating a settlement that could have him on the field as soon as week 2. Bell was suspended 3 games after being involved in an incident with former teammate LeGarrette Blount and some marijuana that was found in his car. Bell is still being taken as a top 5 RB in all formats and a reduction of even 1 game would cement his status as a top 3 pick in all formats. DeMarco Murray switching teams this off season leaves Bell in a prime position to challenge for the top fantasy football Running Back this season, even if his misses a game or…

Johnson was incredibly productive as a runner at Steven F. Austin where he was a 3 time all-Southland Conference player. The Cowboys have recently parted ways with Ryan Williams leaving them Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and the early off season addition of Darren McFadden as the only RB’s on the roster. While he has a long way to go to be an effective runner in the NFL if it was going to happen anywhere it would be behind this mauling Dallas line. Johnson is not currently worth a pick up but any fresh addition to that backfield is worth a monitor.  Johnson highlights available here…

  • Is Le’Veon Bell Worth Drafting #1 Overall in Fantasy Football?

    Adam Funk
    28 Jul 2015 | 9:46 am
Analyzing Le’Veon Bell is relatively easy. He is good. Like, really good. The tricky part with Bell this year is not if you draft him, but where do you draft him? Does Bell still have merit being selected number one overall, even though he is facing a three game suspension? I believe you can make a strong case for taking Le’Veon number one this year. I also believe waiting Bell out into the middle of the first round is the wiser approach. Either way, you are drafting an exceptional talent. Le’Veon Bell is trying to appeal his three game suspension but has yet to make any progress in a…
  • Todd Gurley and 5 NFL Rookies to Avoid in Fantasy Football

    Joel Empey
    27 Jul 2015 | 2:42 pm
Last year’s NFL rookie class was exceptional when it came to fantasy football production. However, not all of those rookies panned out the way fantasy owners would have liked. Like last year, there are rookies to take, and rookies to avoid in this year’s draft. We don’t want you wasting draft picks on the Bishop Sankey’s and the Marqise Lee’s of the world again! So here are my top picks for NFL rookies to avoid this fantasy season: Todd Gurley, RB, St. Louis Rams I’m not saying Gurley is incapable of being a good fantasy player. What I’m saying is that Gurley will not be a…

Who will step up and emerge from the pack, and what battles should you pay most attention to entering your draft day? Let’s find out: Minnesota Vikings: Mike Wallace vs. Charles Johnson vs. Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Jairus Wright Teddy Bridgewater enters his second season and now has a brand new toy in Mike Wallace thanks to a trade with Miami. • 2015 Fantasy Football: Why You Need to Draft Duke Johnson

    Kevin Roberts
    25 Jul 2015 | 1:11 pm
It’s arguable whether or not the Cleveland Browns have a quarterback. It’s not arguable if they have a running back. Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West were both more than fine in 2014 and if forced into action as the two main rushers again, they’d do plenty to reward fantasy football owners in 2015. Crowell and West may not get the chance to do it on their own together, though, as the Browns plucked explosive rookie running back Duke Johnson off the board in the 2015 NFL Draft and have every intention of using him right away. Just how much they’ll use him this season,…

Chris Johnson (RB/FA) 7/28/2015: According to a few reports, free agent rusher Chris Johnson (CJ2K) has been in contact with the Cowboys, and he has been feeling ‘explosive’ as of late. Move Over Fellas, Females are Fans of Fantasy Football As Well by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles 30 years ago in a Manhattan restaurant, a group of guys who loved sports and athlete statistics, came up with the idea of fantasy football. For a while, the phenomenon grew only amongst the “stat geeks”, and was not a part of the sports mainstream. For decades, even the NFL was hesitant to endorsed the product. Things have changed over the last five years however, and the league now clearly supports and benefits greatly from fantasy football. In 2012, the number of…

Early Fantasy Sleepers for 2015- Part Two- WRs by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator & Doug ” insomniac” Bowles Looking over my WR sleeper list, it’s almost split down the middle. 5 Vets- 4 Rookies. Because of the success of the rookie WRs in 2014, this year’s rookie wide receiver class won’t fly under anyone’s radar, but not all of them are in great situations to excel. In the 2015 NFL Draft, 6 WRs were selected in Round One. 3 in Round 2 and 5 in Round 3. Of these 14 rookie wide receivers, I like where 4 of them ended up very much, and consider them nice…

CAUTION- Drafting These Players in 2015 by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles
I’ve never had WR Michael Crabtree on any fantasy football roster. His first couple years in the NFL, I didn’t exactly avoid drafting him, I just didn’t happen get him in any draft. Now he is now one of those players who I will avoid, because he never lives up to his potential, his notoriety, or his whatever. Since 2009, Crabtree has only gone over 1000 yards once. In 4 out of 6 years playing, he has had only 4 TD receptions or less for the season ( 2,4,1,4). NFL.com currently…

Running Back By Committee is almost as vile to hear for a fantasy footballer, as hearing one of your players has “a torn ACL”….or…“it’s a 80 yard TD run, but there’s a flag on the play”….or….. “sorry, we are out of beer.” Although we understand the reasoning behind it, fantasy owners F___ hate…

Hut One- Study, study, and study some more!- If you want to come in last place, just study for one hour before the draft! When someone at your draft hasn’t studied, everyone usually knows it by round 3 or 4. Truth is, any Joe or Jane off the street can do a Fantasy Draft for the 1st 4-5 rounds. It’s after those rounds that championship teams are built. A good tip is to study a little at a time, up until your draft, rather than a one long crash course. Make yourself familiar with…
